
Dr Shirley Sherwood
Patron
Dr Sherwood has always been interested in plants as well as the arts. She did her undergraduate degree in botany from Oxford University and her D.Phil working in a team which discovered the important drug Tagamet.
She started the Shirley Sherwood Collection in 1990, and it now includes over 1000 paintings and drawings, representing the work of over 303 contemporary artists from 36 countries around the world. She has been curating exhibitions of works from her collection in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK since it opened in 2008. She has exhibited her collection in many other prestigious locations including the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Marciana Library in Venice and the Real Jardín Botánico Madrid. She has also written six books and many articles on botanical art.
She has recently published a retrospective book about her 30 years of collecting that accompanied a large exhibition in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery.
The Association of British Botanical Artists is honoured to have Dr Sherwood as their founding Patron.

I work as a Field Botanist specialising in UK native plant conservation. As a Botanical Artist I have been awarded two RHS Gold Medals in the mid-1990s, have a painting in The Shirley Sherwood Collection, the Hunt Institute, and contributed three for the Transylvania Florilegium.

With a background in museum and charity fundraising and the environment, I’m passionate about connecting people with our natural world and am excited to be part of the ABA community.

Hannah Tiedeman

I am a botanical and natural history illiustrator based in Gloucestershire, with a professional background in Governance. I have a Diploma, with Distinction, from RBGE.
My focus tends to be on British Native plants - though I am currently illustrating a book about chickens!
When not working on my own art, I teach on RBGE's Certificate programme, as well as supporting ABA as a Trustee.

Elanor Wexler

I am an educator and botanical artist. I teach art at a specialist dyslexia school in Surrey. Having begun my journey with botanical illustration in 2014, I obtained a distinction CSBA Diploma in 2020. The local species of Surrey and South London inspire much of my work, particularly chalk habitats.

I’m a botanical artist and experienced secondary school art teacher with a background in printed textiles. A member of the Society of Botanical Artists and the Munstead Wood Florilegium, I have a keen eye for detail and strive to portray the beauty of the botanical world in my art.

My interest in botanical painting began with a course at Dillington House, Somerset. I completed the SBA Distance Learning Diploma Course in 2021. I am a member of the group, Botanical Painters at Brackenwood, Bristol. I love creating art in 2D and 3D, especially silver jewellery.

A neuroscientist by training my association with ABA was from the foundation days in 2018. My role is mostly to do with managing and curating the ABA Online Gallery and making sure the wheels of ABA turn smoothly.
